Kaddish in Butrimonys

30 October, 2016

As a farewell to our friend and supporter, a Lithuanian Jewish philosopher and public intellectual, prof. Leonidas Donskis, and fulfilling his recently expressed wish to say Kaddish in the memory of more than 2000 Jews who were murdered in his hometown Butrimonys, we organised the Kaddish there, for his memory, as well, now…

It was incredibly touching to meet there so many people who made a long way to come here on Sunday, despite the cold and rainy weather. Rabbi Michael Pertz came especially from London to say Kaddish, a famous violinist Martynas Svegzda fon Bekker came from Hamburg to play, opera singer Rafailas Karpis performed the Kaddish of Ravel, one of the most famous Lithuanian writers Kristina Sabaliauskaite delivered a speech.  Teachers of the local Butrimonys gymnasium invited all participants to have a cup of tea in their school museum after the Kaddish.
